Bloomfields was founded by Gina Carr, who grew up in Rangiora, North Canterbury. From a young age, Gina knew she wanted to care for children.
Gina started out training as a nanny at Rangi Ruru Early Childhood College, but soon discovered that while she enjoyed looking after one or two children, she also wanted the opportunity to be involved in the learning and development of lots of children, and so completed an Early Childhood Diploma.
Gina spent a few years in London, working as a nanny, before returning to New Zealand to work in early childhood education. She was fortunate enough to be offered a leadership position at a brand new Montessori preschool in Christchurch, which had the staff and children at the heart of its practices. Over the course of six years, Gina made the most of every opportunity to develop and grow her knowledge and skills.
Gina has fond memories of spending time on farms and taking care of animals, which she values in her own children’s upbringing, so this was a priority when she decided to set up her own early childhood centre.
